No new snow to report this morning.
Yesterday the sun stayed out for pretty much all day, some clouds gathering as the day progressed. But generally a really lovely day, and though it did warm up slightly and there was the sound of dripping melting snow, it didn't get too warm.
This morning it wasn't snowing but just now I have just speaking with my colleague in Minamiuonuma where it has just started snowing in the last 10 minutes. Looks like it's coming south and the bit of sunshine that we have had this morning will be replaced by snow soon. Bit wetter compared to the mid-season snow we got over the weekend. Will be interesting to see how much we get on the ground today, not a huge amount expected.
It has been on the news to look for heavy snow at the weekend again though, starting around Friday.
A cloudy day forecast today with snow at times, one of those times being now and it will be staying cold not straying too far above the zero mark.
We're expecting clearer and warmer and sunny conditions again tomorrow.
Later in the week though all eyes on that cold and snowy winter pattern that seems to be scheduled to arrive over Hakuba and also quite a few other areas on the Japan Sea side of Japan. Looks like it could bring with it quite a lot of snow. Would be good!

Another 10-15cm of fresh snow here at base in Hirafu since my last report as the snow steadily comes down. Just spoken with a patrol guy from Hirafu who said there is at least 20cm of fresh up on the upper slopes there.
Still, while certainly there's plenty to play in for now, all of resort areas are still mentioning that the snow isn't that deep just yet with sasa and other things popping up through in places and in some cases narrow courses. The other thing to be careful of is the fact that the snow that we have pretty much came without snow base. Care needed whilst having fun. Always the case of course but early season considerations need to be taken into account.
There's still not that many people around at the moment, but things will change quite dramatically over the next few weeks. Once we get into Christmas week that's when Niseko will really come to life in a big way. It will be interesting to see how things might have changed once again this season. One thing's for sure - it will be lively! Let's hope the nature does it's bit with the snow in terms of quality and quantity.

Clear blue skies this morning but the Tanigawa range is covered in cloud and appears to be lightly snowing. The snow will slowly move over downtown Minakami towards lunchtime bringing an extra few cm to the lower lying resorts.
Thursday, Friday may see some rain at the valley level but the upper resorts should remain snowing.
Saturday onwards sees the next storm cycle coming through with at least 4 days of snow forecast.

Planned opening dates:
Tenjindaira - Opened this morning Houdaigi - December 13th Norn Minakami - December 18th White Valley- December 19th Minakami Kogen - December 20th Okutone - December 20th
A bit of sun again this morning at times and in places, but lots of cloud around as well. Not snowing though we expect some light snowfall during the day today, and that will probably be followed by clearer skies tomorrow.
As far as I can tell, resorts operations are unchanged this morning again. The next change will perhaps be the weekend when we have some heavy snowfall forecast.
If you plan to be here for the weekend, cold and snowy is what you should be expecting. Come prepared!
