Yuzawa area gets a bad rap but this mountain rocked! It was easy to get to the top of the mountain, gondola's and high speed lifts; there was a LOT of fresh powder to be had. It dumped the day before and then there were blue skies and powder; ski patrol are cool and you are mostly free to go where you like albeit at your own risk; short lift lines; nice park; lots of fun hits on the sides

Nice little ski area. With its close proximity to the Japan Sea, this place gets a lot of snow even when its not snowing anywhere else.

A little on the small sides but the price is right. Great deal for parent skiing with a child (the kid's lift ticket is practically free).

Not a good place for absolute beginners. Those on the second or third time out should not have a problem. All runs from the top of

Well, 30-40 cm more snow than last time I went meant I could ride some of the steeper slopes that were bare last time I went. Nice!

Still not enough snow but today only reassured me that this resort would offer some great slopes after a good snowfall.

Choose your day wisely!

Snowpark needs some attention with quite a few jumps closed but there were a couple more rails than last time and a wave table top

The bottom field called Nunoba had no snow but would suit begnners nicely - a wide and even slope with two lifts.

The top field called Yuzawa Kogen suited the kids,(beginner skiers) but they enjoy being in the snow regardless.

There's a long and boring cat track around the back which they liked. I guess would offer some short drop offs in powder conditions.

Overall though it's not very challenging for the experienced skier / boarder, and the courses are all

Don't get on the slopes at Mitsumata if you are a beginner or you're travelling with beginners.

When you get off the gondola there, you're surrounded by intermediate slopes so there is really no place to warm up.

At Mitsumata you should also be aware of the tiny shack that passes for a lodge. There are way too few lockers and they are really hard to access, in a corner of the room behind a rack of rental
