Happo-one review
I have been previously to Zao (Yamagata).

Hakuba Happo is much better organised and it is quite large.

Snow and weather was perfect.

There are several places to go off the beaten slopes, and do trees etc. without worrying about getting lost etc

Hakuba Happo-one review by Sven
It was my first time skiing in Japan, but the conditions were infinitely better than back in Australia.

Happo put on some nice weather for most of the time, but there was about an hour each day where the whole upper section of the resort was blanketed with fog.

As for accomodation, I'd recommend staying at a backpacker/family based lodging rather than a hotel. My hotel was a bus ride from anything, which meant I was restricted by the bus timetables.
