Joetsu Kokusai review by Ronson
In general, it is a very good and wonderful ski spot.

However, the type and choice of foods are relatively limited, the detail grading for ski routes is also lacking.

While the peoples are very nice and helpful.

Great snow. Good variety of gradient. We only skied three runs 'cause the rest was closed in cloud but I'd like to go back for sure.

Nice euro style lodges too.

Appi Kogen review by TheJoeyz
Went to Appi on Saturday 28-Dec-2002 and really expected the snow conditions to suck because of the lack of snow fall in the Iwate Prefecture. Much to our suprise, conditions were really good, espically on Appi 2 side of the mountain. Lots of fresh snow and not too many people on Appi 2 made our day a really good one.

After skiing most of the day we realized that we could not have asked for much better conditions. As

Tsugaike Kogen review by dh
1. way, way more scenic than other places I have been to

2. w-i-d-e open spaces

3. so many lifts it gets confusing - if a lift has a queue, just ride to the next one

4. the lower slopes are a bit poxy, but fantastic for the beginner. I wish I had gone there for my first few times learning over Hakuba47. If you are a beginner planning to go the H47... DONT!... go here instead. H47 sucks in terms of course

Yomase Onsen review by Justin Bowdidge
Just had three days after Christmas at this small but cosy resort. Even with 24 hours of heavy snowfall there were still a few bare patches on some of the runs, but should be great after the New Year.

Snow quality was good, they leave the powder at the very top of the mountain and, if it is snowing, on the runs through the trees. Definitely a good place for beginners and intermediates, as evidenced by the huge number of

Dynaland review by HERON
Dynaland is the nearest good resort to where I live, and I love the place. I may be bias.

But it is a good resort with a good selection of runs, a good (I think) park and usually good snow.

Definitely worth a day out of you can make it

Hachi Kogen review by Tom Stang
Snow was good, but a couple of chairs were still closed as of December 26th, including the new one that connects it to Hachikita! Bummer Dude! When will that chair open?? It is important to have all the options open!

Oh yeah, found some great snow there that day! And it appears to have dropped 20cm more since then! Let the good times role

Meihou review by Chris
The most crowded strip of ice in Japan!

The runs are unchallenging and raspy, the parking expensive (as was the food). The only pro is the wooded off piste area at the top, which amazingly no one uses! It is tailor-made for backwoods. Apart from that, dont go unless you like crowds.

Furano review by reev
Ahh..Furano. I've read the reviews and believe what they say about the paranoid ski patrol and the management (is there any?) because it has become laughable at times. Besides the very convenient 'Family Romance' being closed (it links the two mountains), there are seriously too many things to list here warning you not to spend your valuable ski/board dollars here. For locals, head to Kamui and further afield, Furano is a last resort, literally. You were warned!

Alts Bandai review by VictorHotel
I have stayed at this resort twice and both times there was planty of snow, including fresh powder every morning.

The crowds are not too bad, and lift waiting time on average is about 5 mins. Thre worst thing I found was the weather, out of about 7 days total I only every experienced one day where there was partial sunshine and good visibility.

Appi Kogen review by firedog23
This was my first attempt at snowboarding and the conditions made for a challenging day.

Most of the mountain was closed but there was enough smaller runs to get me going. Once I got my balance down we went to the top and the conditions were sub arctic at best. When we got of the gondolla the winds were at least 50 MPH and blowing snow that felt like sand. I thought I saw Sir Edmond Hillary planting a flag

Makado Onsen review by Rob Grubb
A favorite place for several reasons, cheap season lift tickets, friendly, friendly staff that is very family oriented.

Great place for beginers, they actually will let you or your child walk on the lift and stop or slow down so you can get off in safety.

Small, but not crowded and did I say friendly

GALA Yuzawa review by Scrarmange
GALA was my first resort that I went to in Japan last season. When we went it had just snowed the night before with about 20cm of new powder for us to enjoy.

It wasn't that busy either. I can imagine the place ain't too fun when it's busy because the runs aren't that wide. But the snow and the fast lifts are really good here.

Special mention must also go to the amazing views from the top. Be warned though

Tainai review by hachibuse
This mountian is a gem in the rough. If you are living in the Niigata City area, and want to head somewhere for the day without spending a fortune on highway tolls, then Tainai is the place to go. Tainai's runs on the front side are mellow and wide, and offer up some great lines to the beginner. This side also has a couple of small one makes that offer ample air-time for would be sky junkies.

However, it is

Sapporo Kokusai review by am
Last winter I went to Sapporo during the Snow Festival and spent a day at Sapporo Kokusai resort. It was -9 brr! It was probably because of the snow festival that it was really crowded there, and the runs all ended at the same place. \r\n\r\nBut everyone, from little kids to old people, was really experienced there, and they zoomed down the runs.

Personally I didn't have a good day and Kokusai kicked my ass!
