Hakkoda review by mxkid
Hakkoda is a great resort for intermediate to advance.

There are some lower runs for the family but the top is where it all is.

When I went it was snowing good and the mountain got about 4-6 inches of fresh snow.

Awesome resort

Nozawa Onsen review by davewillets
We spent Christmas 2003 in Nozawa.

We were fortunate to avoid the weekend crowds but unfortunate that the fresh snow didn't arrive until the day we left. Oh well, we'll be back. There was enoung packed snow to keep us happy.

A special thanks to Ko-san and her family at the Kiriya Ryokan. My family and I had a truly memorable stay. Their hospitality was first class. The cuisine - both breakfast and dinner -

Marunuma Kogen review by GoodTimes
We were up at Marunuma over Christmas in Gunma.

I liked the place. The snow was good, some interesting runs, not too busy, beautiful area. I recommend it. I can imagine it might not be the best when busy, but where is?!

We stayed at Pension Currants (on this site) which deserves a special mention. Very friendly.

Good Times had by all

Minakami Houdaigi review by Good Times
This is a nice little ski resort, quite a way from the main roads. Kind of in it's own secluded corner.\r\n\r\nDecent snow when we went and like Marunuma (where we also went) it wasn't busy at all.

Beautiful area.

Stayed at La Neige (listed on this site in the Places to stay section). Very friendly, very nice place.

GALA Yuzawa review by linal
This was my second visit to Gala, and both times it's provided great conditions. The accessibility is fantastic, the staff are friendly and helpful and if you go midweek there are no crowds.

Great place to go for a beginner, but may be a bit limited for advanced riders. For me though - great stuff

Kagura review by SKI
First time out for the season at Kagura yesterday.

The place wasn't very busy - certainly less busy than I thought it would be. Snow was nowhere near the best for that resort, but still not too bad. They need another dump or two to give Kagura it's usual great snow condition resort status.

Definitely a resort to go to if you haven't already

Ryuoo Ski Park review by stoke
Ryuo has a more European feel than other resorts I have been to as some of the courses go between the hotels in a kind of villagey way.

The resort is split into three areas - top, middle and bottom. The top area was flat and disapointing. The middle area (with the advanced runs) was closed, meaning you had to catch the gondula back down!! So most time was spent on the top of the bottom runs.

They are well set

Marunuma Kogen review by Larry
This place just never seems to be crowded.

There are a good range of slopes from beginner to expert. However the mogul at the top is a wee bit long for my liking.

All in all a great medium-sized resort

Niseko Annupuri Kokusai review by Richard Bell
The big proviso to this review has been the lack of snow so far this season - with the normal 2m+ I can see how good the place would be - great scenery, plenty of lifts and a variety of (mainly easy) runs. Boarders - would say it's skiier biased, though not exclusively so.

Trouble is, so far this season the top lifts are not open and so it is currently impossible to go to the summit and

Iwappara review by thelovelyjen
First time out this season and we chose Iwappara because we know a group of people up there.

The sun was out, the snow was fantastic. Amazing to think that just a few days before there was hardly any snow around at all. Things can change really quickly.

Iwappara is a good place for all skill levels, but for beginners that main middle slope is excellent. Just right. Long, very wide.

And the views are fantastic

Naqua Shirakami
Stayed the weekend. No new snow but the whole area was in a little warm spell. The course was long. Which I liked but as being a challenge far from it. There was about a 50/50 skier to boarder ratio. For the boarders, not to many jumps to be found. All together it still was a great place to ride.

One down point is you have to pay per person to stay overnight in the Prince Hotel.

The room was clean

I live quite close to the resort and I visited the place a number of times last season. If you go on a good day you are bound to enjoy yourself. The snow, however, is not ALWAYS reliable.

If you just want to muck about on a few groomed runs then it's worth a day out.

But if you want a challenge, you may as well head to Hakkouda further up towards Aomori city.

Shiga Kogen Yokoteyama review by lachystar
3 lifts available for boarders at the bottom of the park but they are all seperated and short.

I found the runs on the map differed a lot to the actual courses on the field so I could be wrong but there's one lift for boarders at the top of Yokoteyama.

Its ok to board here but you can't get to it unless you're a skier.

Basically, if you're a boarder, get a hotel on close to Tanne no Mori-Okojo.

Geto Kogen review by Feish13
I spent the last season skiing at Getou, and I would have to say that it is a pretty good beginner-intermediate hill. To give you an idea, the longest run, also the main run, you can bomb it in about 30-45 secs. It is not the biggest hill either, this is from top top bottom.

This is of course on the runs, and if you are willing to go exploring a bit and outrun some of the ski patrol
