A "civilised" resort
I visited Kawaba on the 29th thanks to a ticket from the SnowJapan Giveaways. So a big thank you to SnowJapan and Kawaba Resort. I enjoyed nearly everything about Kawaba, the multi-storey base building, the long lifts, that had short lift lines, the nice variety of runs, my only grip was the music. If you are going to have music playing on a loop, please include more songs. I get to hear “Let it go” enough at home, without hearing

Let's Kawaba!
I visited Kawaba on a day-trip from Kanagawa on the Monday after Christmas.

The reviews on here had said good things about the place and they weren’t wrong! It’s not that far from Tokyo, has decent facilities at the base (including that multi-storey car park) and offers a variety of slopes and features (trees, moguls, park) to keep everyone happy. With plenty of early-season snowfall, on-piste conditions were good and there was about 20-30cm of largely untracked snow in the

Great Winter Vacation for Family
We are from Malaysia. With 5 years experience living in Japan last 10 years ago, I'm looking the best winter vacation for my family on this trip back to Japan which is near to Tokyo. Found it here in Naeba Prince Resort.

Great family winter vacation if you are looking for fun in snow from kids to adult. Almost what you wanted is here. The base is at the door step. You can take a rest to the room for

The friendly staff was very helpful and patient. The room was clean and had a view of mountain, which was great because as soon as the lift started moving I was out the room. There is WiFi in the room only, plenty of restaurants of different types of food from 5 course meals to an indoor picnic where everyone shares picnic tables. Oh and select lifts continue into the night until 9pm.

There are shops that

Skiing on a snowcone
Snow Town Yeti is probably the closest "resort" to Tokyo, and I use the word resort in the loosest way. It's the only ski area I've been to that had and entrance gate to get in and out. talking about out, when you leave they take your lift ticket from you in exchange for a discount ticket for future visits. No keeping the ticket for a souvenir.

Yeti is easy to get to by car, and given the number of local

Ryuoo - Beautiful views and great riding for all levels!
Ryuoo is a great skijo with amazing terrain for riders of all levels. It is located between Shiga Kogen and Nozawa Onsen, but seems much less popular especially with international riders. For the beginner rider the “Sky Land” area offers some of the best easy high elevation terrain that I have ever seen. The views are amazing and the terrain is diverse enough for beginner and intermediate riders to have a great day and if conditions permit, even experience that

Wonderful snow, but terrible shuttle bus to from the shinkansen
I've already been to Kagura several times last season. It is a very nice place, in particular for the quality and volume of snow. Some nice runs between the trees and on the back side behind the highest lift.

Enjoy skiing

Early open with one lift and powder; regular open with unfortunate conditions
Meihou opened on the weekend of the 13-14th even though the season starts on the 19th. There has been so much snow, it opened the bottom lift with tickets for ¥2500 and parking was free (I'm not sure if it usually is).

When I got there, there was 30 cm of powder. It was snowing but the slope looked groomed. I had no idea what to expect so I was pretty disappointed when I got to the top of the lit

Most snow satisfying holidays
It was an unexpected heavy snow condition - having stayed in the tropics ie sunny Singapore we have never enjoyed the tremendous powdery soft fall of snow!! An amazing n unforgettable experience though we do travel extensively (almost half the world). This was magical as such I am bringing my family esp my 84 year old mom back to Zao from 25-28/12/14 and we are family of 8 persons. Not easy to fix a schedule but we managed

Big Hill, Lots of fun
Last season I went with a group of people of different skiing abilities.

There was enough terrain of different levels to keep it interesting and for everyone to enjoy.

It was my first time at Happo-one so I am keen to return and experience it when the snow gods are kinder.

It's a resort that everyone should ski at least once.

The lift system is good, there is plenty of places to stop for breaks.

Heading back to Kawaba this season
Kawaba. It's only about an hour drive away from where I live, but I haven't spent much time there at all. I am going to change that this season though with at least one visit planned.

Thought I'd write down some impressions before so I can compare "after".

Bigger than I was expecting.
Funky multi story car park at the end of a mountain road.
Long lifts.
Very cold.
Nice snow.

Let's see how I feel about it this season.

Start of season with baby snow monsters
I had been planning to save Minowa for later in the season after their snow monsters have developed, but they had two of their three lifts running and the kid was up for trying somewhere new, so that is where we started our season.

The first real snowfall of the season was just winding down when we arrived, and visibility up top was not great at first, but what could be seen was nice and white.

Clear spells highlighted the nascent snow

First weekend of the season
Two weeks late but we can forgive Niseko that.

Snow conditions were pretty good over the opening weekend, though not mid-season great. Not that you would probably expect that in the first half of Niseko.

Still quiet before the hordes arrive, so I am hoping for some more snow to allow the mountain to fully open before it gets too busy.

Peak season Niseko is too busy for my liking so it's an early and late season place for me.
