Asahidake Ropeway
You can hike up past the ropeway, which I did in the summer when there was no snow.

But in winter, there are plenty of places 2 ride/ski, and there weren't 2 many people.

I went on a sat. My favorite mt. in japan

This was the first ski resort I went 2 in Japan and had my standards set high, coming from Colorado.

I wasn't disappointed. It's an OK place. I was much more impressed with other resorts in Japan--don't believe people when they tell you japan is narrow!

Go out and see the other resorts

Sapporo Teine review by dizzy
Only been on weeknights, 'casue my buddy used to live in Teine and we'd go on a friday night to warm up for the weekend at other resorts.

The cool thing about T. Highland are the kickers towards the top, the absolutely gorgeous night views of sapporo (imagine hitting a 5m kicker and seeing the city lights glimmering while you r boning your air and free floating!!)

The other cool thing about T. Highland is the one-make contests they have--anyone can

Hidaka Kokusai review by dizzy
If you live in hidaka-kannai or want a great night skiing place, this is it.

I used 2 finish work @ 4:10, drive back home, pick up my gear and be on the slopes by 5:45. I went here so much 'cause it was so close 2 home.

Small, but a nice place.

Reminds me of Mid-west skiing (Wisconsin, upper pennisula of Michigan, etc.) back home

A nice small resort with respectable runs, Okunakayama offers a great getaway spot for a day's outing.

Fun but short runs keep you busy all day

Niseko Grand Hirafu review by snake
The snow quality at Niseko is all that you have heard and is the main reason for visiting this resort. We had a 10 day trip - it snowed for 6 days straight with 50cm of fresh powder one day and powder easily found on the others.

Tree runs were superb - and you could still find ones that weren't tracked out by lunch time if you looked.

When there is no fresh snow, Niseko (including Annupuri and Higashyama) is just

Minakami Kogen Fujiwara
This is a small, small ski park. There is one challenge course, 2 or 3 short intermediate options and a longish, flatish cruising run if you take two lifts up to Minakami Kogen.

There was virtually nobody there apart from some school lesson groups in the afternoon (who only stayed for a couple of hours). A good place to learn/teach, brush up rusty skills, take the kids etc. Very, very pretty silver birch forest. Cheap lift ticket. (3500yen)

There is a

Maiko Snow Resort review by knightvato
I really like this resort.

The bowl at the top of the gondola area has some decent uncrowded terrain, and the lifts there are quick so you can get a lot of vertical in a day.

There is great potential in this place but for some reason the most desirable spots are roped off.

It can get crowded on the bottom and the night skiing is not great

Naeba review by jesse
Naeba is the best resort around here.

It takes about 2 days to cover the whole thing (if you take the "dragondola" to the other side).

The hotel is wonderful and has many rooms, restaurants, a pool, jacuzzi, sauna.

They have cheap packages, especially for weekday travelers. The weather when I was there was great except for about 2 hours when it was cloudy but it cleared up nice and was really nice.

It is

Ishiuchi Maruyama review by scott
For a quick getaway from Tokyo on a day trip, it's a good bet. A bit crowded on some runs as many of the people there stay "on the course". Not much tree space to play in, most everything is blocked off. It was a beautiful day though, some spring skiing in January!

There's also access to GALA Ski resort via a dual access ski lift. GALA isn't as nice as this place though (In my

This resort lives up to the rep... First run of the day @ 9:09 am the Mens Downhill was perfect... fast beyond words...plenty of room to let the skis run wild, love the SLOW DOWN signs on a downhill course... Yea right...

The weather was sunny, no clouds & Iwate-san was out to the left and proud. The rest of resort was good for the level it was desgined for.

The snowboard park was OK, nothing to drive 2 hours for,

Runs are long, but not plentiful. You'll ski them all before long. Some good pitches for Gifu, though.

A worthwhile trip from Osaka/Kyoto/Nagoya

Okutone Snow Park review by buyer
This place is close to Tokyo but the snow was pretty good. We went on a weekday so it was almost deserted, no line ups all day. The runs are wide and there are plenty of jumps and rails interspersed between, the best one has 3 rails and two jumps on one run at the very top.

The lift ticket is probably a bit overpriced 4000yen for the day, but the resort opens at 6:00 and you can board until 5:00pm

Maiko Snow Resort review by greenmachine
The ropeway and top runs were closed when we visited so the chairlift had a 20-30 minute wait. The so called beginner's run near the ropeway is completely flat! Most were taking off skis and boards and walking. Argh! Grrr.

Crossing over to the other side of the resort was time consuming and a little annoying. That side was crowded, the surface old and icy and I didn't like it.

On the other hand, after 5, most people head home. While we
