A good place for families and beginners.
I'll start with the positive. Muikamachi Ski Resort is a good place to bring the family. It has enough going on for kids that don't ride to be entertained all day. They have a nice kids room with a Super Famicom (American name is Super Nintendo) as well as a ball pit and lots of toys. Down the hall from this room is an onsen (hot spring) bath to get clean after riding or just to relax in for the spouse who doesn't want to ride. Heading outside from the hotel they have a magic carpet lift that give first timers a good place to practice on one side as well as a sledding run on the other. In front of there are some great ice slides that kids from around 2 to 6 years old were going crazy on. I even enjoyed a couple of slides.

I think Muikamachi is a good hill for beginners as well. The views of the surrounding mountains are beautiful and it gets a lot of snow at times. They have some easy and fun slalom courses as well as some other easy features for a little challenge. It also wasn't very crowded despite being a three day weekend.

Now moving on to the down side. There isn't much variety to the courses. They had three lifts running but one was just a shorter lift accessing the same area as one of the others. They have a "hiking area" which might be a little better on a powder day but wasn't worth it when I went and I love hiking! I definitely don't think it is the place for advanced riders, which I would consider myself, and I don't think I could even recommend it for intermediate riders. I was able to entertain myself for a couple of hours jumping off a small cliff and riding the slalom courses but a full day would have probably been pushing it. At some point sliding and sledding with the family just became more fun. That said the sliding and sledding was great!

All and all Muikamachi is a great place for families and beginners and is really pretty. A great place to learn and teach.
