It needs those snow conditions though - more than other places, I think.
Let me explain.
Places like the 'other famous places' on Honshu have a lot to offer and it isn't just all about the snow. Steep terrain, lots of different resorts in a small area, not mad crazy cold temperatures, lots of cultural attractions nearby, monkeys soaking in onsen.... that kind of thing.
Niseko, I feel, is all about the snow... so when you take the excellent snow conditions out of the equation, well it doesn't hold up as well as other places.
Unfortunately we're going through one of those periods right now - it's raining this morning - and we're in need of fresh snow. As are many places around Japan I see.
All in all I think I prefer the steeper and more varied terrain on offer in Honshu.
