Hakkoda isn't known for it's groomed runs, and they are pretty forgettable. Unfortunately the top of the mountain wasn't open as we don't have nearly enough snow yet, but considering there was nowhere else to go I was more than happy to ride the two runs that were open all day!
Price was good, since it was early season, we paid ¥2700 per person and rode all day... Snow conditions were, as I said, OK but not great. Lodge was nice, they had a reasonable pro shop and the vibe was good. Parking was very limited but they were working to clear a larger lot when we arrived. I think the sudden snowfall had caught them off guard for as early in the year as it was.
I'd love to go back again and ride the top of the mountain, my Charlie Slasher is aching for some pow, but the two groomed runs were actually both very nice and I imagine are normally totally empty since the real attraction at Hakkoda is the back country. I'd say for that reason they're probably not a bad place for beginners to get their feet wet. They're both beginner runs.

Snow condition on visit:
OK. Not a great base layer, but a really nice storm rolled through in the morning and dropped about two inches of fresh stuff so it rode pretty well.
