This is my 2nd time to Kandatsu, the previous being a number of years ago. I won a ticket on SJ, of which I'm eternally grateful, but with the crappy all round snow year I had been putting off using it, waiting for better conditions. Those days have passed and so I thought I'd enjoy an end of season, bluebird, spring slush day.
Kandatsu is kinda small and compact but there are a few tree areas that would be good when the snow is on. However for me that was not the case, I was riding the main pistes and lapping through the park. Kandatsu has a large locker room, which is a little on the old side….but still a million times better than the sub-standard, tiny facilities at the much bigger and nearby Kagura (Prince Hotels….take a look at that situation FFS!!).
A lot of brown was showing through and looking back at my own pics of the end of March it is stark as to the low snow year…..this looking more the end of April than the end of March. That however is not Kandatsu's fault. I had great fun lapping the park and getting little hits off of the side of the pistes. Chugging a few beers and just enjoying being up the mountains on such a warm, beautiful spring day.
1 annoying thing is that I love to have an onsen after a days riding and Kandatsu advertise that they have an onsen in the base station on the 5th floor……..they may HAVE one but it's not open!! They even gave me 200¥ off coupon with my lift ticket….for an onsen that isn't open….WTF?! It would be nice if they could remedy this situation :D
