Went for first outing of the season at Kawaba. First time there. Given how late the season is taking to get going, my goal was just to break in my legs for the season. It was good for that.
Only the bottom two chairs were running. One chair dumps out at the top of the beginner valley course down to base, and the other exits above the first one, adding some intermediate slope before joining the top of the valley course.
The snow was all artificial. Actually ok as long as one did not dig too deep into the icy base below. The valley course was jam packed with beginner snowboarders, who were falling all over the place and swerving unpredictably. This made it feel a bit dangerous, and I only stayed for a few runs.
But any day skiing is better than not, so I had a good time. Reassured myself that I hadn’t forgotten how to ski since my last outing at Gassan in June, and also confirmed I need more leg exercise, as I had suspected.
The people working in the base center were extremely cheerful, which was infectious. The lift attendants did not work hard to pack the chairs, though, so lift lines were slightly longer than needed, but still pretty quick.
A good day out. Be interesting to check out the back slopes when they are open some time.

Snow condition on visit:
Artificial. Icy base with fairly soft topping.
Things I liked:
Things I didn't like:
Alarmingly crowded beginner slope that was the only way back to the chairs that were running.
