CORTINA BABY !!!!!
Caught the 07:20 from Happo bus terminal (note for future - get breakfast from Lawson's supermarket for bus ride) and set out for Cortina on a sunny Sunday after heavy overnight snow.

Where to start...... nothing that has been written comes close. This was powder with a capital P!

While it was pretty busy being a Sunday, there was plenty of untracked, uber-deep pow pockets available at least until lunchtime.

QUITE SIMPLY THE BEST POWDER SKIING OF MY LIFE!

Resort is a bit

Wonderfully surprised by the skiing at this resort
Having not skied here before we were all very pleasantly surprised by what Iwatake had to offer.

Generally more cruisy than Happo One with most of the skiing below the treeline, Iwatake reminded me of the Ski-Welt region of Austria.

However, the Ace in the pack was the fantastic back bowl at Wood Park / View 1 off the back of Mt. Iwatake which was full of the soft stuff during 2 of our 3 days here.

Great resort (with 47) which became awesome after big dumps
My wife's favourite as it has perhaps the flattest of flat greens and we were greeted by a Kamashiko on the first run one morning on the green that winds down to 47 base.

Son (boarder) loved the Snow Park

Daughter loved E1 red.

Bit disappointed that the adventure course above Goryu was not open as I have fond memories of it from last year.

Hit some great powder on the sides of E2 & E3 at 47 during and after some heavy

Fantastic
Further to my review of Happo One based on our visit last year, this report is based on this year's January visit. I will also post separate reports for Goryu/47, Iwatake and Cortina as I skied those resorts on this trip too.

Starting with Happo One (skied 3 days) this really is the biggest and best in the Hakuba Valley with something for everyone.

BTW one of the days skied here was courtesy of SnowJapan's very kind awarding of a lift

Fantastic skiing in a fantastic resort
We actually skied Happo One, Goryu/47 and Tsugaike Kogen.

Mixed ability family who all enjoyed the fantastic conditions, great variety of terrain and unbelievable hospitality from the locals.

On this latter point, the contrast between warring with the Germans to try to get a beer at the Café Sailer in St. Anton, Austria, and enjoying a discourse with the hugely welcoming and friendly Japanese in any mountain or resort café/restaurant, could not be greater.

We're going back next week for
