Although it only took 2 hours to get there form Kyoto, it took nearly 6 hours to get back. Traffic was a nightmare. A single lane road to to the highway with 5 other ski resorts emptying their parking lots onto this road at the same time (we left at 3pm to try to beat the traffic) made this trip seem a lot worse than it actually was.
The mountain is good, good variety of terrain for varying abilities, and lots
Yuzawa area gets a bad rap but this mountain rocked! It was easy to get to the top of the mountain, gondola's and high speed lifts; there was a LOT of fresh powder to be had. It dumped the day before and then there were blue skies and powder; ski patrol are cool and you are mostly free to go where you like albeit at your own risk; short lift lines; nice park; lots of fun hits on the sides
Great mountain for those living in Kansai. Bigger than most other local mountains and if you drive, the double lane highway makes sure that it is 2.5 hours from Kyoto to the mountain, and 2.5 hours back.
Friendly staff, and pretty quiet mid-week. Weekends can be busy but still very tolerable. If there is powder, this mountain can be a lot of fun. If not, there are some fun runs with a few hits here and there
