Akakura Kanko Resort
Myoko City, Niigata

Great potential, just need the right conditions...
I like Akakura Kanko, but I'd like it a lot more if I could hit it with the right conditions... Being a weekend warrior, that seems to have eluded me so far... But still, it's a great resort!

Akakura Kanko is a large resort with plenty of slopes, and lots of fun terrain out in the designated 'off-piste' section. The cool thing about Kanko is that even if the conditions aren't the best (like when I went), there's plenty of

Madarao Mountain Resort
Iiyama City, Nagano

Sick powder day!! Tickets compliments of snowjapan giveaway
I go to Madarao every year and never a disappointment! This year was no different.

The first day there was about 30cm of freshies and it was super cold making the conditions amazing!! tons of tree runs at this place and ski patrol is nowhere in sight.

On the second day I awoke to about 2ft of snow burying my car which took quite a while to dig out. It was worth it! Epic pow conditions.

We went directly to

Hakuba Happo-one

We love to ski!
We just returned from a wonderful week long ski adventure in JaPow! Two dads and four young adults. We are expert Colorado skiers and boarders. What else can we say - we loved everything about our trip to Japan, the resorts, the snow, the acomodations and the food. It snowed about four feet (130 cm) during the week.

We spent four days in Niseko, skiing five different resorts, and then Four days in Hakuba. We recommend

Grandeco Snow Resort
Kita Shiobara Village, Fukushima

A family oriented resort in Fukushima.
Courtesy of a SnowJapan ticket giveaway (thankyou very much SJ) it's been a while since Grandeco has been reviewed, so I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring.

A mate and I ventured there on a Tuesday early in February and coming off the back end of a three day dump, we were rewarded with excellent snow conditions. Being of a slightly higher elevation to the other resorts in the Bandai area (with the exception of Minowa) the snow

Myoko Suginohara
Myoko City, Niigata
Submitted by bkurobe on 28th January 2015
Probably the best in Myoko
Although Myoko is really a series of ski mountains, Suginohara is probably my favorite.

On this day, it was a white out which I love beacuse the snow was deep and not many people out on the slopes. 30-40 cm of fresh pow all day, our tracks pretty much covered up everytime we went up the lifts.

At the very top there are some good tree runs if your willing to duck some ropes.

It's also a good entry point

Nozawa Onsen
Nozawa Onsen Village, Nagano

January Three-Day Weekend. Never Disappoints
Saturday was decent powder. Sunday was maybe 10 centimeters. Monday was a full reset, ridiculous dump.

Nozawa. You probably don't need me to tell you, it's awesome. We paid less than 30,000 yen for a bus to Nozawa, two nights, breakfast and dinner, and two tickets. We paid another 3700 for a half-day on Monday.

Stayed up at Yamabiko Saturday until we tracked it out. Met a cool dude who showed me a good place to jump out behind Skyline. Ridiculous powder

Niseko Annupuri Kokusai
Niseko Town, Hokkaido

Great Pow!!
This is a pretty good mountain.

It gets a little crowded sometimes, but not like Hirafu.

Wide open slopes with pow staches all over the edges and throught the trails until afternoon.

The best part of this mountain is the access to the gates. When they open it rocks. Good tree runs, wide open bowls, full of knee to waist deep pow

Ikenotaira Onsen
Myoko City, Niigata

Great day compliments of the Snowjapan giveaway!!!
This is a good place to visit for all kinds of skiers/boarders. Has a little something for everyone.

For me, the tree runs on the far left (looking up the mntn) are the best. Lots of fresh pow and pretty much just my friends and I going in.

It was a holiday weekend, so more people than usual.

Still easy enough to find freshies if you know where to look! Thanks again Snowjapan

White World Oze Iwakura

Oze Iwakura - The 'White World' Indeed!
Having spent the last 10+ years riding your typical big/popular resorts in Nagano/Niigata/Hokkaido, this season I fancied a change...
Pre-season I'd spent a good long while looking at Google Earth, and topographical maps searching for the kind of resort I like... Something a long the lines of Hakuba Cortina.

For any of you that have ridden at Cortina, you'll know that the whole resort centers around a large bowl with everything (pretty much) funneling down to one run in the middle.

Sapporo Teine
Sapporo City, Hokkaido

Short and deep :)
Right, since moving to Sapporo at the end of March 2013, I've now ridden at Teine enough times to get a good feel for the place. One thing that has to be said is that this place is split into two distinct parts.......Olympia and Highland. They are connected by a long and winding cat track. If you are a beginner then Olympia is for you as the pistes are not too steep and are nice and wide........some great groomers to
