Untapped Resource |
Coming from Iwate prefecture, this resort is almost as close as the bigger resorts like Appi and Geto to Morioka. Like these other locations it cops plenty of snow but not the crowds, perhaps due to the absence of regular public transport.
I went by car, but there is a shinkansen station that would only be a ¥2-3000 taxi from the resort so it's not unreachable. Also there are a number of accomodations nearby ranging from dormitory to pension to |

Tazawako review |
Living in Akita, this resort is a great option because it's one of the bigger mountains up here. It's not too bad either. On a good day you can find funs powder lines on fairly steep runs! Obviously like many other ski hills in Akita, nothing is super steep, which is a bummer, but still fun nonetheless!
Tazawako has something for everyone! so it can accomodate for a family trip or just someone who wants to make some |

This is a good resort in Japan. The resort is almost as well known for it's view as the skiing and snowboarding, but that is good too. One of the top places in northern Japan for an all round experience. Enjoy the winter sports in Japan! |

I have spent time there in December & in January from time to time. YH has half price lift tickets and more food than you can digest.
Got lucky I think, but it snowed 30+cm every night so powder is available until noon everyday.
No lift lines at all. And if it is not snowing, the view of the lake is beautiful. |

Probably the best all round resort in Akita Prefecture.
From adavanced runs that will challenge even the most advanced skier/snowboarders (Black mountain) to the wide gentle beginner slopes of Mizusawa.
Good facilities - including a ski/snowboard school with friendly instructors, good food, comfortable Lodge, plenty of accomodation options (with Onsens) and great scenery (the near by Lake Tazawa can be scene on a clear day).
What more could anyone want? (A board park....they have one don't worry) |

One of the most pleasant resorts I've yet been to here in Japan.
You can easily scream through the whole mountain in half a day, but take your time. The snow quality was excellent, and snicker snicker jump the fence into the out of bounds on the far left and rights whenever possible.
Watch out for sink holes though. It's worth it. Right next door to Tazawako is Asseru Skijo - don't bother, it's for beginners. |

Go for the views. A nice resort if you live in this region, but not worth travelling to. But the views and the lake reallly nice and pretty. |
