Ciao Ontake Snow Resort is located on the northern slopes of Mt Ontake, to the south east of central Takayama city in Gifu Prefecture (and close to the border with Nagano Prefecture). Getting there might not be as convenient as many resorts but the high elevation around 2000m and northerly slopes mean this resort often enjoys good powder conditions, and a long season as well. The 2200m long Gondola lift holds 8 people in each cabin. Ice climbing, snow shoe tours and snow rafting attractions are available at this resort. It has been operating since 1998.
Unfortunately, opening for the 2018-2019 season was delayed and eventually cancelled due to recovery needed from flooding in the region during summer 2018. As of mid October 2019 there is no available news regarding potential opening for 2019-2020 but the old website is not available. We will check and update this again in the coming weeks.
Gifu Prefecture is located in the Chubu region of the central region of Honshu island, and it one of only a handful of landlocked prefectures. It shares borders with (from the north) Toyama, Nagano, Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Fukui and Ishikawa. Most of the ski and snowboard resorts in Gifu are located in the northern region of the prefecture – in Gujo city, Takayama city, Hida city and Shirakawa village.
Ski and snowboard lessons are available at Ciao Ontake Snow Resort.
Ski and snowboard equipment rental is available. Ski and snowboard wear rental is also available.
The 'Kids Park' is open on Saturdays and holidays only and is located at the base of the resort. Under 12's can enter for free, otherwise the charge is 500 yen.
The 'Snow Park' at Ciao is located by the Number 1 Duo lift.
