Hirayu Onsen is located to the east of central Takayama city in the northern region of Gifu Prefecture, close to the western border of Nagano Prefecture. Hounokidaira is close by.
Gifu Prefecture is located in the Chubu region of the central region of Honshu island, and it one of only a handful of landlocked prefectures. It shares borders with (from the north) Toyama, Nagano, Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Fukui and Ishikawa. Most of the ski and snowboard resorts in Gifu are located in the northern region of the prefecture – in Gujo city, Takayama city, Hida city and Shirakawa village.

Bus
A bus from both Takayama and Matsumoto is available - both take about 60 minutes.
Various bus tours go to the resort from Nagoya, Osaka and Kyoto. Apparently there is a bus from Shinjuku as well. That takes 4 and a half hours.

Hirayu Onsen is located to the east of central Takayama city by the side of Route 158, and close to the Hirayu exit of the Abo-Toge Road.
The Takayama IC exit on the Chubu Jukan Expressway is about 37km from Hirayu Onsen, while to the east Matsumoto IC on the Nagano Expressway is 46km away.
