Iwate Kogen Snow Park is located in Shizukuishi on the southern slopes of Mt Iwate in the northern-western region of Iwate Prefecture. It originally opened as Iwate Kogen Ski-jo in 1971 and actually closed for a period of seven years - originally due to nearby volcanic activity - before opening again under the new name in 2004. A few changes were made for the 2017-2018 season including a remade top course (Calgary) and better access to the bottom base gondola station. Amihari Onsen and Shizukuishi are close by.

Iwate Prefecture is located in the Tohoku region of the main island of Honshu. Morioka is the capital city. Most of the ski and snowboard hills in Iwate Prefecture are located in the western mountainous regions, near to the border with Akita Prefecture. Aomori Prefecture is to the north and Miyagi Prefecture is to the south of Iwate.
