Spring Valley Izumi Kogen is located on the northern slopes of Mt Izumigatake to the north of Sendai city in Miyagi Prefecture. It can be seen from Sendai city on a clear day. Easy access from central Sendai makes this a popular ski hill, with the nighta operations being particularly popular. Spring Valley Izumi Kogen first opened in 1991. The Izumigatake ski hill is located just to the south on the same mountain.

Miyagi Prefecture is part of the northern Tohoku region of the main island of Honshu. It has a long Pacific coastline and is bordered with Iwate Prefecture to the north, Yamagata Prefecture to the west and Fukushima Prefecture to the south. The ski hills in Miyagi Prefecture are found in the mountainous regions stretching from the north to south of the western region of the prefecture.
