Kashimayari Skijo Family Park, often known as just Kashimayari, is a ski area located in Omachi City, in the northwestern region of Nagano Prefecture.
Omachi is just south of Hakuba village, and Kashimayari is one of the ski areas making up what most people know as the Hakuba region.
The courses at Kashimayari are serviced by two quad lifts (940m and 960m) and three pair lifts (350m, 280m, 600m). The 600m Number 5 pair lift re-opened for the 2023-2024 season.
Kashimayari used to be the southern section of three connected ski areas known as Sun Alpina. In 2009, the central ski area known as Sun Alpina Aokiko closed, so the connection with the third ski area (now known and still operating as White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka) became unavailable.
Kashimayari has been operating since 1963 and has been known under several names over the years. Initially, it was called Kashimayari Kokusai ski area. In 1984 it changed to Sun Alpina Kashimayari. In 2010 it changed to just Kashimayari in winter and Kashimayari Sports Village throughout the year. The current official name in Japanese is Kashimayari Skijo Family Park, and that is how we are listing it. (The 'skijo' part is being translated as both Ski Resort or Snow Resort in various places - there does not appear to be an official version). Complicated!
The Hakuba region is about an hour west of central Nagano City. There are (currently) ten ski areas within Hakuba Village, neighbouring Otari Village to the north and Omachi City to the south. They are collectively promoted as Hakuba Valley. View the full list here.
In recent years, the region has become one of Japan's most popular winter sports regions with overseas visitors, giving it an increasingly international feel.
The spectacular natural mountainous surroundings and associated outdoor activities make Hakuba popular throughout the year.
