Lotte Arai Resort made its debut in the 2017-2019 season. From 1993 until closing in 2006, this resort was known as ‘ARAI Mountain & Spa’. The facilities were taken over by Lotte in 2015, and after 11 years of being inactive and significant restoration and brand-new facilities being added, Lotte Arai Resort opened mid-December 2017. It is essentially the same resort - just made-over and given an extra shine.

Lotte Arai Resort very boldly places itself into the ‘premium’ market, charging more for lift tickets than pretty much any other ski resort in Japan. Since the 2018-2019 season it introduced a new 'First Class' 1 day ticket that costs 8,000 yen, which... let's you use a special gate. 'Economy Class' tickets costs 6,000 yen which in itself is more than any other individual ski area in Japan. (Perhaps the name 'Business Class' would be more appropriate!) Charges aside, many of the facilities are certainly new and impressive.

There are lots of official off-piste 'Free Riding Zones' at Lotte Arai Resort.

The slopes of Lotte Arai Resort are located on the eastern slopes of Mt Okenashi in the western region of Niigata Prefecture. Considering its location just 20km from the Sea of Japan coastline, the upper areas of the mountain receive large amounts of snowfall. The resort can be found to the north of the ski resorts in Myoko – the official address is within the boundaries of Myoko city. It is actually closer to central Joetsu City than Myoko though.

Niigata Prefecture is located in the central region of Honshu to the north of Tokyo and has a 250km long coastline facing the Sea of Japan. Convenient transportation links make Niigata very easy to get to from Tokyo and other surrounding regions. Most of the larger ski and snowboard resorts in Niigata Prefecture are concentrated in the southern regions around Yuzawa town, Minamiuonuma city and Myoko city.

Lift Ticket Information 2020-2021 Season Lift Tickets

All ticket prices shown above (unless noted otherwise) are valid during the main season and known as 'Economy Class'. All day (and PM) lift passes include nighta until 8:00am.

Special 'First Class' lift tickets are available - a one day ticket costs 8,000 yen for adults and 4,800 yen for children. The 'First Class' experience offers special gates so that there should be no waiting even on busy days.

Unlike most ski areas, there are no 'senior' rates and children above Elementary School age pay the adult charge.

Slightly cheaper rates are available until 25th December 2020 and from 15th March 2021.

Fun fact - these are the most expensive lift tickets for an individual ski area in Japan. Lotte Arai Resort appears to view this fact as a selling point.
