Suhara is located in the north western area of Uonuma city in Niigata Prefecture. This resort offers 'reserved nighta' so you can have the slopes all to yourself (and your group) in the evenings if you like. Uonuma city is located just to the north of Minamiuonuma and Yuzawa in Niigata Prefecture. There are 6 ski and snowboard resorts scattered around the mountains of Uonuma and while getting to them may not be as convenient as some other resorts to the south, the region enjoys very heavy snowfall each winter.

Niigata Prefecture is located in the central region of Honshu to the north of Tokyo and has a 250km long coastline facing the Sea of Japan. Convenient transportation links make Niigata very easy to get to from Tokyo and other surrounding regions. There are over 50 ski and snowboard resorts in Niigata Prefecture, ranging from small one-lift hills to some of the most well-known and popular ski resorts in Japan. While they are dotted around the mountains of the prefecture, most are concentrated in the southern regions - in particular the Yuzawa town and Minamiuonuma city area in the Chuetsu region and Myoko city in the Joetsu region.

As the 2018-2019 winter season approaches, we will gradually be updating the information for every ski resort in Japan.

Many ski resorts in Japan do not update their own information until the autumn months and so our process of updating information will be ongoing until November.

Resorts usually open and close around the same time each season - if the 2017-2018 planned season dates are still displayed on this page, they can be used as a good indication of the season length.
