Introduction

Akakura Onsen is a ski area located on the eastern slopes of Mt Myoko in Myoko City in Niigata Prefecture.

Akakura Onsen has 14 ski lifts, including two quad (491m, 1068m), four triple (1386m, 310m, 580m, 573m), and eight pair (307m, 461m, 753m, 553m, 501m, 413m, 234m, 382m) lifts. There are three main areas to the Akakura Onsen resort, Yodel, Kumado and Ginrei. The snow in several sections of the Yodel area is left ungroomed.

Akakura Onsen ski area is course-connected with the neighbouring Akakura Kanko Resort ski area. A joint lift ticket is available (as well as individual area tickets).

Night skiing is available daily in the Kumado area for most of the main season until 9:00pm or 10:00pm.

Myoko is the name of a city in Niigata Prefecture. It is also the name many people associate with the ski areas located on and around the beautiful Mt Myoko in the city's southwest region. View the full list of Myoko ski areas here. Myoko famously enjoys some of the heaviest snowfalls in Japan.

Other popular ski areas in Nagano Prefecture are closeby, including Madarao, Nozawa Onsen and Shiga Kogen.

The region is popular throughout the year with onsen hot springs, nature and outdoor activities.
